Moore was a Michigan author and poet of six books. She was called the "Sweet Singer of Michigan." Born on Dec. 1, 1847 in Plainfield (Mich.), Moore lived there until the age of 10 when her parents moved to Algonac (Mich.). She spent her adult life in nearby Edgerton (Mich.). Eugene Field, an American writer, was born in 1850 to Rosewell Field and Frances Reed. After his mother's death in 1856, he and his brother were sent to live with a cousin in Amherst, Massachusetts. He studied at Williams College from 1868-69. He then studied for a short time at Knox College in Illinois and at the University of Missouri. He married Julia Sutherland Comstock on October 16, 1873. James W. Ellsworth was initially reluctant to participate in the development of a World's Fair in Chicago. After learning that the planners of the Exposition envisioned an international exposition, Ellsworth directed all his energies to the successful development of the "Dream City."
